BLACKBIRD IN OAK I have made this wirework into a crescent shaped oak branch, with the outline of the blackbird, that can be seen in my other work. I am intrigued how leaves vary so much in shape and really enjoyed capturing the oak leaf form for this piece. I have used 2 gauges of black iron wire, which if exposed to damp conditions will rust a little, adding more decoration and interest. The oak leaves are slightly curled, as in real life, which is hard to photograph, but it does make it a 3D piece with a depth of approximately 8 cms in places. As a wall hanging, it needs to hang from two small nails and for best effect, to be hung a small distance (one or two cms) from the wall. When light shines directly on it, beautiful shadows are created on the wall behind the wire shapes, giving another dimension to the image. This wire oak branch can be displayed inside or outside.
