The Hellebore design started from the photo above. The heaviness of the flower and curl of the stems transferring into the end print.
A painting was created that could then be made into a printable design. Two designs were made - one which was a silhouette to be printed in one colour and one that encompassed the six colours used in more detail.
For the silhouette only one screen was made, but for the six colour, six screens were made, one for each colour. To make the screen the design is traced onto the mesh and filler (red) is painted on, blocking the areas where the ink is not to go through to the fabric.
Above is a printed image of the six colour print. When making your own screens it is possible to print in any colours you wish and on any flat materials, including paper.
With the single colour silhouette design above, a completely different image can be created using varying coloured background fabrics and inks.
This design printed in pinks and greens uses six screens.
