Working with wire is a very therapeutic activity, where we create images from our minds into 3D forms. In the workshops we will be working with plants and flowers, real and imagined, recreating them in wire. One of the most attractive parts of wire forms are the shadows cast in sunlight or at night by lamplight. No previous experience or knowledge is required to become immersed in the creative activity of working with wire in these workshops.
In these workshops, stems of flowers and plants are created, along with grasses, and held in a wooden block, creating a section of a hedgerow.
This can be as dense or as sparse as preferred. Placed against or near a pale wall, the shadows cast will form intricate shapes giving another dimension to the piece.
The workshops take place in the village of Timsbury, Nr Bath, Somerset; parking is available at the house. Surrounded by an inspiring garden of plants and trees, these 4 hour workshops will guide you in the basics of creating something beautiful with wire. You will learn when to use different gauge wires and which tools to use; how to form different shapes and how to bring it altogether. All tools and materials are provided, along with homemade cake, teas & coffees.

Just wanted to say thank you, again, for this afternoon’s workshop. You were so welcoming and friendly, and you are a very good teacher! I enjoyed every minute of today and I really think that I will be buying some materials and tools to have a go at home - especially in the winter when it’s cold and wet outside.

We had a fabulous afternoon at Kate’s wire workshop. Her tuition, guidance and knowledge was perfect. We were surprised how quickly we could create and Kate is so calm and encouraging.
Her beautiful home is so welcoming and conducive to creating, plus we were fuelled by tea and cake.
The gorgeous Hector plays a part in the experience too.
Thank you so much. I’d highly recommend to anyone.

I had admired Kate’s wirework at an exhibition in Bath so was really keen to try her wire flower workshop when a friend suggested it.
This was in Kate’s house which is a fabulous setting. Kate’s creativity is in evidence everywhere.
On arrival Kate put us at ease immediately. I hadn’t done any wirework before, though I do have a creative background. Kate was clear and patient in giving instructions, repeated as necessary.
I was encouraged to try out my own ideas, Kate wasn’t prescriptive in the slightest.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and productive afternoon. I didn’t feel rushed at all.
I am very happy with the flowers I took home and feel very inspired to continue.
Thank you Kate.

Just back from a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing afternoon at Kate's wire workshop. It is hosted in beautiful surroundings. Kate gives you a pretty comprehensive demonstration of how to manipulate the various wires into all sorts of wonderful flowers. You are then free to let your imagination roam and to get really creative with all the required tools at your fingertips. The only interruption was a piece Kate's absolutely delicious homemade cake. Also highly recommended. Thank you Kate for a lovely afternoon and for such a great introduction into the world of wire art.

Just a note to say thank you so much for a most enjoyable and inspiring afternoon yesterday.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and learnt so much and am so chuffed with my treasure I took home. I am looking forward to showing it off, so who knows, others may want to come along and do a workshop.
You were so informative and kind and helpful and the refreshments were delicious and the setting of your beautiful home all bonuses to a wonderful day.

I spent a lovely day with Kate learning how to craft using wire. Set in her beautiful house you immediately felt welcomed - by Kate and Hector ( the dog). From mere pieces of wire a small group of us learnt how to create flowers, leaves, grasses. Resulting in handmade wildflower scenes. On arriving with nothing we each left with our own individual works of art. Kate is a very thoughtful teacher. Going at the pace that best suited each individual. Nothing was too much trouble. Kate's enthusiasm for her craft is infectious and it was a wonderful day being guided by a skilled craftswoman. I would thoroughly recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to try something different or improve on their wire crafting skills. Wire and tools are provided - along with tea and scrumptious cake.

My sister, niece and I had a wonderful afternoon sat in Kate's sunny kitchen learning about wire-work. Kate spent the first part of the session taking us through how to work the tools and wire, sharing some examples of her work and giving us some ideas of what to create. She was very easy going and kind on us having never done anything like this before.
We then spent the remainder of the session creating our own piece to take home under Kate's guidance and delicious afternoon tea and cake. We were all delighted with our arrangements and hope to return!

The wire making workshop with Kate was just brilliant. I haven't attended a course like this before and was unsure what to expect, but it was pitched perfectly in a lovely setting with a great group of people. Kate is a great tutor - patient and clear - and I loved that we were able to come away with a finished piece. I'd like to say a huge thank you - what a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon - I will be stocking up with my own wire and clippers this weekend!
