This page shows a small collection of wire art that I have made. I use iron and copper wire of differing thicknesses, making 3D drawings. In bright light, the wire shapes create beautiful shadows on the walls behind them. Those lit with night-lights cast a warm gentle shadow on the walls. Small decorative areas of rust can be created on the iron wire, by exposing them to damp conditions.
I am currently selling wire work at the Dotty Gallery in Twyford, Fosse, Beads & Friends Gallery in Castle Cary, Beck Steps Gallery in Grasmere, Stone, Paper, Scissors and at various events and exhibitions. If you would like to discuss any wirework with me do contact me here.

NEW WIREWORK
This recent wirework structure is of a Giant Parsley Seedhead, standing 135cms tall. The seeds are still being held in the delicate dried out stalks and the leaves are crisp and wrinkled.
This recent wirework structure is of a Giant Parsley Seedhead, standing 135cms tall. The seeds are still being held in the delicate dried out stalks and the leaves are crisp and wrinkled.
Over 2000 seed stalks were created.
Whilst most of the structure was formed using a fine 24 gauge black iron wire, the major stalks were created with a much thicker 16 gauge wire.
The seed stalks were bunched together, and then bound.
|
Now finished, this piece is comprised of around 2,300 pieces of wire, including a steel rod, to re-enforce the structure of the main stalk. Whilst the seed-head weighs over 1.3kg, it hangs by a single nail.
The wirework is 48cms wide and 18cms deep. With light shining on it, shadows are created on the surface behind, creating another feature of the piece. |
Long wire tails were left to help bind the bunched seed stalks to the major stems.
Smaller, finer seed-heads were created for the more delicate and undeveloped structures.
When the stalks and stems were joined, small frail leaves and tendrils were created.
